About Silver Lining

Experience for the Moment When Experience Matters Most

Silver Lining Intervention was founded by Jim Hinkamp to help families make clear, responsible decisions when substance use disorders, behavioral health concerns, or mental health concerns have become difficult to manage alone. The work is private, direct, compassionate, and built to continue beyond the immediate crisis.

Jim Hinkamp • Founder & CEO

More than 20 years helping families move toward recovery.

Jim began this work through the Lawyer Assistance Program, helping professionals and families affected by substance use. He saw how quickly a personal concern can also affect health, livelihood, reputation, relationships, and the wider family.

Today he brings that perspective to interventions, case management, recovery coaching, and family guidance. He is direct without being confrontational, compassionate without avoiding difficult truths, and always focused on a plan the family can understand and carry forward.

Professional Perspective

Recovery experience informed by legal, business, and family realities.

Jim is a Certified ARISE Interventionist, licensed attorney, former business owner, and executive coach. He earned his law degree from Loyola University Chicago and an MBA from DePaul University. This background helps him understand situations in which personal wellbeing, family relationships, professional responsibilities, privacy, and significant financial decisions may all be connected.

Based in South Florida, Jim works with families nationwide and worldwide and is available to travel when the situation requires it. When appropriate and authorized, he can coordinate with trustees, family offices, attorneys, employers, and other trusted advisors. He also has experience helping families understand when Florida’s Marchman Act may be worth discussing with independent legal counsel.

Why Silver Lining

Hope is meaningful when it is paired with action.

Understand the whole situation

Substance use rarely affects only one person. We consider the family, immediate risks, past attempts to help, professional responsibilities, and the practical decisions that must be made.

Stay involved after the intervention

Accepting help is an important beginning—not the end of the work. Continuing support through treatment, transitions, and early recovery helps keep the plan connected.

Recommend without financial influence

As an independent interventionist committed to professional ethics, Jim does not maintain financial relationships with treatment centers or clinicians.

South Florida Base • National & International Reach

Direct, personal involvement wherever help is needed.

Clients work directly with Jim. Each engagement is shaped around the family, the urgency of the situation, and the professionals already involved—not handed off to a call center or forced into a standard program.

The Meaning Behind Our Name

The Meaning of a Silver Lining

Addiction and alcoholism can leave individuals and families feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about the future. Yet even in that darkness, there can be a silver lining: the opportunity for someone to reclaim their life, for relationships to heal, and for a family to find its way back to one another.

Recovery can mean rediscovering a sense of purpose, being present for the people you love, and beginning to build a life that feels meaningful again. For families, it can mean rebuilding trust, learning healthier ways to communicate, and making room for connection alongside clear boundaries. These changes take time, and each person and family has a different path.

That possibility is the meaning behind our name—and the purpose behind our work. Silver Lining helps individuals and families take thoughtful steps toward appropriate treatment, ongoing recovery support, and a future with renewed hope.

Experience Applied to Your Situation

Start with the kind of help you need.

Jim’s direct involvement connects preparation with the work that follows. Explore intervention services when a structured family response may be needed, case management when providers and decisions need coordination, recovery coaching for practical daily support, or family guidance for relatives’ own questions and decisions.

Our Insights & Resources articles provide general education and link to supporting sources. They help families prepare questions for qualified professionals; they do not establish an individual diagnosis or treatment plan.
